Memphis is located about halfway up the Mississippi River from New
Orleans - approximately the middle of the country. We are located right
next to the junction of Interstate 40 and Interstate 55. Interstate 240 is
the 'loop' that circles the city and can carry you easily from downtown to
suburban communities.
Historically, Memphis' riverfront location has meant heavy freight and
riverboat passenger traffic. Luxury paddlewheelers still ply the waters of
the Mississippi River and dock in Memphis for leisure visitors.
Sightseeing cruises are available. Major commercial traffic bypasses the
gentle, downtown riverfront for the city's President's Island Industrial
Complex.
